'Basket Of Fire' Hot Chilli Pepper Seeds - 10 Seeds Description

Spice up your vegetable garden with these hot chilli seeds and enjoy having a piquant seasoning on hand to give your dishes that extra kick! Just as decorative as it is tasty, the Basket of Fire plant works beautifully in hanging baskets and patio pots to deliver a splash of colour to your outdoors.

With an impressive heat rating of around 80000 Scoville heat units (a measure of how hot a chilli pepper or anything derived from chilli peppers is), the Basket of Fire plant produces chilli peppers that are hotter than cayenne peppers yet milder than the datil and much, much more delicate than what is known as the ghost pepper!

Thanks to its delectable flavour and medium heat level, the Basket of Fire chilli makes a brilliant addition to everything from curries to stir-fries and even breakfast delicacies with a kick. Eliminating the need to stock up on chilli peppers with your weekly grocery shop, having your very own chilli plant results in the utmost convenience - a must for enthusiasts in the kitchen.

Petite in size yet huge in flavour, this spicy, hot variety of chilli makes an ideal addition to your kitchen garden, and once harvested, it can be dried or used fresh from the plant. Despite the compact nature of this ornamental chilli, the inside is actually quite fruitful with plenty of flesh!

The plant itself features a delightfully bushy appearance with a scatter of vivid colours from the chillis to brighten up any outdoor space. Expect gorgeous shades of sunny yellow, zesty orange, scarlet red and even deep purple set against the greenery.

For your convenience, the seeds come presented in a resealable zip-locked plastic bag for superb freshness and easy storage, meaning you don't have to use all the seeds at once. Ideal for sowing in winter between January and March, the Basket of Fire has a good tolerance to chilly weather conditions!

Although it's best kept in a greenhouse, polytunnel or conservatory where the plant will see plenty of light while being protected from the elements, it's also suitable for planting in a garden or allotment once frosty weather has passed. Ensure you use rich compost to nourish your plant and feed it plenty of water when required!

Manufacturer's description:

A wonderfully productive and decorative chilli pepper, the unique, bushy growing habit of the chilli pepper 'Basket of Fire' makes it perfect for hanging baskets and containers. This colourful variety becomes smothered with small hot chillies that mature from deep purple, through yellow and orange, to a bright shade of scarlet red, creating a fabulous display.

The plants show good tolerance to cool weather and will continue to fruit outside well into the autumn, and even longer under glass. These powerful peppers have a Scoville heat rating of around 80000 Scoville heat units, and once harvested can be dried or used fresh from the plant.

Sow pepper seeds about one-centimetre deep into a seed tray or in small pots or cells. Cover lightly, water and place inside at between 20-25°C to aid germination, placing the tray in a plastic bag.

As soon as seedlings are large enough to handle, prick out. Transplant the seedlings into small individual pots. Use rich compost and keep the plants between 20-30°C during the growing season.

  • Sow January to March
  • Germination can be slow with some hot peppers
  • Suitable for the vegetable garden, allotments and containers
  • Be prepared to water well and supplement feed with high-potash feed during season
  • Regular feeding is recommended.
  • All seeds are packed by Viridis Hortus in resealable zip-locked plastic bags

For best production keep the plants in a greenhouse, polytunnel or conservatory. Transplant seedlings when large enough to handle into 7.5-centimetre pots. Plant in the greenhouse in individual large pots, or 3 plants per growbag when 20 centimetres high. Can be planted outdoors, 45 centimetres apart once all frost risk has passed.

Any cultivation guide is purely for guidelines. Local conditions such as soil temp will affect how well any seeds, bulbs plants germinate/grow so always check locally as to the seed, bulb and plant suitability.

Although every effort is taken to ensure the quality of our seeds, packaging and delivery method, it should be noted that the germination of seeds and bulbs is very dependent on many factors including light, moisture levels, temperature, soil conditions, soil pests, and many other factors.

Please ensure that the seeds or bulbs you order are suitable for the conditions in which you wish to grow them as we cannot be held responsible for poor levels of germination.
