Recently we discovered that the UK’s favourite sex position is the Eagle, amassing over 150,000 searches every month - but how many of those are over the age of 60?
As adults age, many begin to worry about sex later in life and shy away from sexual encounters. However, studies show that frequent sex is reported to increase lifespan, solidify relationships, and improve physical and even mental health.
In a bid to delve deeper into the sex lives of OAPs, OnBuy spoke to 2,381 over 60s to understand their sexual habits as they grow older.

What did we find?
Our research uncovered that 1 in 10 (11%) over 60s are interested in embarking on new sexual relationships in 2020, with almost a quarter (23%) of OAPs admitting they are eager to try new things in the bedroom with their current partner.
But with just 6% of over 60s seeing an increase in their sex drive, and almost half (48%) stating they have had no sexual activity in the past year, getting in the mood can be difficult. But with OnBuy’s extensive collection of sex toys, sexual care products and erotica at your disposal, it’s easier than ever to spice up your sex lives – we’re looking at you Charlie and Jessica!

How often do over 60s think about sex?
With the average person thinking about sex eight times per day, how often do over 60s do so?
Through surveying more than 2,000 OAPs, we found that a whopping 3 in 5 (63%) admit to thinking about sex on a weekly basis – 21% do so daily! This led the team at OnBuy to ask, ‘How many times per day do you think about sex?’. The results are as follows:
How many times per day do you think about sex? | Male responses |
---|---|
1-2 times per day | 69% |
3-5 times per day | 21% |
5-10 times per day | 8% |
10+ times per day | 2% |
How many times per day do you think about sex? | Female responses |
---|---|
1-2 times per day | 73% |
3-5 times per day | 17% |
5-10 times per day | 8% |
10+ times per day | 2% |
The results show that responses differ between the two sexes, with 69% of men and 73% of women admitting to thinking about sex once or twice a day – an average of 71%. Furthermore, only 21% of men and 17% of women think about sex between three and five times per day.
A further 8% think about sex between 5 and 10 times per day, and 2% fantasise about sex more than 10 times each day!

What fetishes and kinks do people over 60 enjoy?
The OnBuy team were also intrigued to discover which fetishes and kinks over 60s are into. We found that 20% of respondents have specific preferences in the bedroom (and outside of it, in some cases!), which are as follows:

The most popular kink among the over 60s is BDSM, with more than half (63%) interested in giving it a go with their partner. With this erotic practice involving bondage, discipline, dominance, submission, and sadomasochism, this may come as a shock to many!
Age play – a form of role-playing that allows individuals to treat one another as if they were younger or older – is the second most desired fetish among over 60s, with 3 in 5 admitting they are keen to try it out.
In third spot is group sex, with 58% of respondents wanting to experience sex with two or more participants! Taking fourth and fifth place are dominant/submissive (56%) and scene/role play (53%).
Honourable mention goes to golden showers (also known as ‘urine play’), with just over a third (38%) of OAPs admitting that they are interested in this kink!
