Sex. It’s on everyone’s minds 24/7 – yes, even the over 60s – but there’s always one question pondering everyone’s minds: “Is everyone else having more sex than me?”
In an attempt to settle the debate of “how often do people have sex?”, the team at OnBuy.com surveyed 5,000 people from around the UK to reveal the sexual habits of Brits once and for all.

How many times are Brits having sex per week?
Despite the Modern Kama Sutra being the UK’s favourite book, it seems Brits aren’t getting it on as much as people think, with just 5% of Brits engaging in the act every day of the week! The most popular choice when asked how often we do the dirty was ‘once or twice a week’, with almost a quarter of Brits preferring this time (23%).
This was followed by:
- 3 - 4 times a week (20%)
- Once a fortnight (18%)
- 5 - 6 times a week (14%)
- Less than once a month (11%)
- Once or twice a month (9%)
There’s also a clear winner for when we have sex, as 86% of Brits have sex between 6pm and 10pm, post-work hours. This is followed by the night owls getting jiggy from 10pm onwards, with 70% opting for this time of day.
Interestingly, the next most popular time was between 10am and 2pm (32%), suggesting almost a third many of us enjoy getting it on at lunchtime! 3 in 10 (29%) Brits like to start their day off right by having sex before 10am, and 1 in 5 (26%) Brits prefer between 2pm and 6pm.
Furthermore, following our discovery that relationships improved in lockdown, we quizzed Brits to find out whether their sex drives have increased or decreased during the Coronavirus pandemic. We found that over half of Brits (53%) have seen an increase, whereas it’s decreased for a third of us (35%) – the rest saw no change (12%). If you’re looking to get in “the mood”, consider introducing sex toys or watching a sexy movie to get your hearts racing!

Which is the most popular day of the week to have sex?
Friday is the most ‘passionate’ day of the week, with three quarters of Brits (76%) celebrating the start of the weekend with a bang – quite literally! In close second is on a Sunday, with 72% preferring to round off the weekend with a bit of “fun”.
This was followed by:
- Saturday (67%)
- Thursday (36%)
- Monday (28%)
- Wednesday (20%)
- Tuesday (19%)

Where do Brits have sex?
In a bid to discover where we have sex most, we asked Brits to select locations – both inside and outside – where they have had sex before. Unsurprisingly, a whopping 98% chose the bedroom, but our research reveals that Brits are far from boring with 4 in 10 of us getting down and dirty in our cars, and 2 in 10 have had sex on their balcony!

Sex Habits in England Vs. the UK
OnBuy were also interested in finding out more about England’s sex habits, to see how they compare to the rest of the UK. We found that a whopping 30% having sex 3 - 4 times a week – that’s almost a third and 10% more than Brits!
Other interesting discoveries include 41% are looking for a quickie on their lunch break, their favourite day to have sex is on Sunday (85%), and over half (52%) admit to having sex in a car!

Methodology
The survey was conducted on 5,000 Brits throughout July 2020. Participants include: 1,981 from England, 1,345 from Scotland, 883 from Wales, and 791 from Northern Ireland.
