SAFLAX - Bonsai - Orange Jasmin - Murraya paniculata syn. exotica - 12 seeds - With potting substrate for better cultivation
Aromatic, cream-white flowers all summer / Indoor Bonsai
With germfree and permeable potting substrate based on coconut fiber for suceessful cultivation.
The evergreen bush can easily be cultivated as an attractive bonsai plant. Its pinnate leaves have an intense glossy dark-green colour and - due to its relation to citruses - produce a citrus-like odour when ground. From early summer until autumn the Orange Jasmine blooms in several batches of numerous small, creme-white and aromatic flowers.
Natural Location: The Orange Jasmine can be found throughout Southeast Asia and in some parts of Australia. Most commonly it grows in mountain forests, where it is found up to 1300 meters above sea level.
Cultivation: Seed propagation indoors is possible throughout the year. To increase the germinability, you can place the seeds in warm water over night for priming. Spread the seeds onto moist potting compost, put just a little bit of compost earth on top, and cover the seed container with clear film to prevent the earth from drying out. Don't forget to make some holes in the clear film and take it every second or third day completely off for about 2 hours. That way you avoid mold formation on your potting compost. Place the seed container somewhere bright and warm with a temperature between 25° C and 30° C (for example near the heater) and keep the earth moist, but not wet. Usually it takes about three to four weeks until germination.
Place: Keep your Murraya paniculata in a bright spot with not much direct sun. During summer it also can ideally be kept in a half-shaded place outdoors.
Care: You should water your plant with lime-deficient water and see that the earth is consistently moist, but without waterlogging, especially in the saucer. During blossoming, from April until September, it needs fertilizer for bonsai plants every 10 to 14 days. Pruning the twigs of your Orange Jasmine is possible all year - however, it is advisable to prune after blossoming. When the plant developed four to six leaves, you can cut back to only two leaves. Wiring is possible at all times. The Orange Jasmine tolerates most soils as long as they are permeable, the best option, however, is a mix of bonsai earth, peat and sand at a 2:2:1 ratio. Repotting is only necessary after strong rooting of the clotted base roots.
During Winter: During winter the plant should be kept in a bright spot with temperatures above 15° Celsius. Keep watering your plant, but always wait for the upper layer of earth to dry out before watering again. The Orange Jasmine loves a high humidity and wants to be sprayed regularly and ideally every day. Fertilizing is only necessary every four to six weeks.
Bonsai ability: Yes
