The history of Kinder
The Kinder story starts in 1968, in the heart of Italy. Here, Michele Ferrero developed a heartfelt idea that would grow into the wonderful Kinder brand today, placing innovation and creativity at the centre of children’s chocolate. Following on from the success of early products, the company took inspiration from Easter egg-hunting traditions in order to produce their first commercially successful treat: the ground-breaking Kinder Surprise. Combining great taste with the entertainment of play, this delicacy was soon to become one of the most-loved chocolates around the world.
Today, Kinder aims to bring friends and families together with a range of shareable packs. From the deliciously fun Choco-Bons to bite-sized Kinder Joy, there really is something for everyone in their unique chocolate selection.
What makes Kinder chocolate so special?
As with many chocolate brands, the superior taste lies in the preparation. Kinder is well-known for its exceptional quality and blend of unique, nutty flavours, both of which are simply unrivalled by other chocolatiers on the market. From the famed Bueno bar (a duo set of wafers containing a creamy hazelnut filling) to the Kinder Surprise (a hollow milk egg shell containing a toy), the company’s innovative shapes and creations continue to spark joy all over the world, in adults and children alike.
From the moment these treats were released, attention has always been paid to the smaller portioning of ingredients. This way, they can easily be combined with other foods, like fruit or milk, as tasty in-between titbits. As of 2021, a whopping 81% of their products are below 130 calories each.
A proud member of the World Cocoa Foundation (WCF), Kinder are also well-known for promoting a sustainable cocoa economy through social and economic development. Working closely with various certification standards, including Fairtrade, UTZ, and the Rainforest Alliance, they are committed to bringing their customers ethically-sourced ingredients, cultivated at the source.
