Who are Oatly?

Oatly is a Sweden-based company founded in the 1990s. They are dedicated to making delicious, dairy-free, plant-based milks and boy do they deliver. Their sole purpose as a company is to make it easy for people to turn what they eat and drink into personal moments of healthy joy without recklessly taxing the planet’s resources in the process.

Whether you’re looking for a delicious alternative for your morning coffee, or want to enjoy your cereal with a neutral dairy-free milk, Oatly is the best option. Their plant milks come in a variety of different types and flavours - each one as delicious as the last. Barista style milk makes frothy lattes with ease while their chocolate flavoured milk is that perfect evening treat you’ve been craving. They don’t just do milk alternatives either - from tubs of creme fraiche to yoghurt alternatives and even decadent tubs of ice cream, you can enjoy Oatly from morning to night every day.

Why should I choose oat milk?

There are many reasons why someone may want to reduce the amount of dairy they consume. Whether you’re concerned about the welfare of the animals in the dairy industry, you’re lactose intolerant, or you want to have a positive impact on global CO2 emissions, choosing alternatives is a personal choice. There are loads of milk alternatives out there with plenty of advantages to each so which one do you choose?

Almond milk is a milk alternative made from, you guessed it, almonds. There is a bit of controversy about the environmental impact of almond milk production so if you’re worried about the impact your choices have on the planet, it may not be the best option for you. Additionally it’s not great for those who are allergic to tree nuts.

Soya milk is another popular option and is the one with the longest history. It is cheap to make and therefore cheap to buy and can be found sweetened or unsweetened. The issue that many have with soya milk is that it tends to retain its rather beanie flavour so if you’re looking for a milk alternative that doesn’t have much of a flavour itself then it may be better to look elsewhere. It also has the tendency to split when added to hot drinks or strong, acidic coffee.

Oat milk is a fairly recent addition to the dairy-free market and up until even a few years ago was almost unheard of in coffee shops and supermarket shelves. Now, you can’t visit even the corner shop without being able to find some form of these liquidised grains. Oat milk has a much more neutral flavour and is often much creamier than it’s nutty, beanie counterparts, matching the palettes of many people much more. It doesn’t curdle in coffee and blends beautifully into iced drinks and smoothies.

Additionally, Oat milk is much more environmentally friendly - it uses a fraction of the water that almond milk does (almost 400% less in fact) and requires less pesticides and herbicides. Oatly oat drinks are also fortified with all kinds of minerals and vitamins so are great for you as well as the planet!
