Check out these handy tips and tricks to maximise the potential of your clothes airer… even when you’re using it indoors!

1. Buy an electric airer

Though slightly pricier than standard models, electric clothes airers can dry your clothes in record time, often costing less than 5p an hour to run! Super convenient for busy days, when you have a heap of laundry to get through, they take less than five hours to dry an entire load.

2. Invest in a dehumidifier

Drying clothes indoors can lead to an increase of moisture, which creates excess condensation and - potentially - damp and mould. The result? Not pretty! 

A dehumidifier can help to combat these humidity levels, as well as speeding up drying times when placed next to an airer.

3. Opt for an over-radiator airer

For smaller items, you really can’t go wrong with an radiator drying rack. Due to their compact size, these subtle lifesavers are ideal for drying hand towels and tea towels, as well as underwear and hosiery (particularly if you need something quickly). 

4. Cover your airer with a bed sheet

Thanks to TikTok, this trend is sweeping across the country! All you have to do is place your airer next to a radiator (or oil-filled heater, if you’re looking to save even more money), and cover it with a bed sheet. Tuck the other end of the sheet behind the heat source and hey presto… your drying times will be cut in half!

5. Use hangers!

Most airers now come with corners that flip out so you can use hangers. These are essential for shirts, blouses and other delicate items like cardigans and jackets, as they help to prevent creases (making ironing so much quicker and easier!).
