From reassuring induction hobs from the likes of Neff and Hoover, to ceramic hobs from Stoves and Smeg, you'll be spoilt for choice!

Are electric hobs better than gas hobs?

Both gas and electric hobs have their own lists of advantages and disadvantages, so picking the right one for your kitchen will depend entirely on your cooking requirements. While gas hobs are typically front runners when it comes to their running costs and their ability to heat up quickly, electric hobs perform better in terms of energy efficiency, being easier to clean, and are often safer if you have little ones that like to help out in the kitchen. This is because sleek electric hobs don't create a visible flame and the heat settings can often be locked to prevent any accidents. Plus, the surface of electric hobs is flat and therefore doesn't require as much time or effort to clean like raised gas hobs often need.

Ultimately, if you're a fan of technology and have a bustling home with kids and pets, electric hobs are often a better choice. Not to mention, their energy-efficiency also makes them popular among those with a passion for protecting the environment - as well as cooking! Gas hobs, on the other hand, are much more affordable in terms of running costs and allow for quick and convenient cooking. No matter which hob you decide to opt for, you can be sure that we'll have a variety of makes and models for you to explore.

What are the different kinds of electric hob?

If you've been convinced to snap up an electric hob based on the benefits above but you're not sure which electric hob is right for your home, then you're in the right place! There are five different kinds of hobs for your kitchen including gas and of course electric as mentioned above, as well as ceramic, induction, and domino. Domino hobs come in both gas and electric models and are ideal for installing alongside one another to create a tailored cooking space in small areas. However, induction and ceramic hobs use electricity to generate their heat. Induction hobs, for example, have electricity passed through their copper wire induction coils which creates a magnetic field.

Once an induction pan/magnetised pan base is placed on top of these coils, it'll begin to heat up making it one of the safest (and priciest!) hobs on the market. Ceramic hobs also use electricity to create heat by passing a current through coiled parts installed just beneath the toughened glass surface. To operate the hob, simply use the control knobs to adjust the current and therefore the amount of heat being generated. Regardless of whether you opt for a straightforward electric hob or a hob that uses electric to cook your food instead of gas (like an electric ceramic, induction, or domino hob), you won't be short of tempting options at OnBuy.
