Whether you’re looking for glossy curls or sleek straight locks, investing in a reliable hair dryer is a must. One of the best ways to guarantee reliability is to buy a hair dryer from a reliable brand, so we've created this blog that summarises some of the most popular.

Before deciding which brand to buy, it's worth knowing whether you want a traditional handheld hair dryer or something smaller. We go into this and more in our hair dryers buying guide, so make sure to give it a read!

Dyson hair dryers

Made by the world's famous electrical engineering company, Dyson hair dryers have a truly space age design: The futuristic-looking Dyson Supersonic.

One of the biggest features Dyson hair dryers have is their special Air Multiplying technology. This lets the Dyson hair driver get away with a smaller motor than traditional handheld hair dryers. In fact, it's so small that it can fit inside the handle! That makes it quieter than other brands, and your hair can't get caught in the back vent, which is something that people with really long hair might worry about.

Other features include a thermal sensor that tests the temperature over 40 times every second, helping to protect your hair from heat damage; ionic hair dryer technology that helps to reduce frizz; and a range of attachments - including a unique one that can hide flyaways - which are magnetically attached for your convenience.

Dyson hair dryers are certainly amazing, but they're also one of the most costly brands out there - the Supersonic has a recommended retail price of around £350 (although you do get a lot of accessories with that purchase, including a carry case, comb and hair brush).

Remington hair dryers

The next hair dryer brand we'll look at is Remington. Remington hair dryers are one of the company's most popular products, and like Dyson, the brand has put a lot of energy into developing features for their range.

One example is the 'Intelligent StyleAdapt Technology'. This feature uses an infrared sensor on the front grill to measure the temperature of your hair and then change how much heat it puts out in response. Some Remington hair dryers also include LCD displays that tell you at a glance which of the four style settings you're using, so you'll never accidentally frizz out a carefully sculpted hair do with the 'quick dry' function again.

Remington hair dryers aren't nearly as expensive as Dyson's but they can still run to three figures, so they may still be too costly for some. Another thing to be aware of is that many Remington dryers are quite heavy, which can prove tiring if you have a lot of hair to dry.

BaByliss hair dryers

Another top hair dryer brand is BaByliss. BaByliss are a hair care brand first and foremost, so obviously BaByliss hair dryers are going to be quality products; many hair dressers select Babyliss dryers for their salons.

A top feature of BaByliss hair dryers is their Airglide technology, which together with a very tight concentration nozzle, creates 120km/h airspeeds to dry hair rapidly. Another feature is their diamond-infused ceramic hair dryers. This creates more negative ions (which stop static electricity from messing up your hair) than ceramic on its own.

One thing to be aware of with BaByliss hair dryers is that they are seriously powerful. Even their budget Lustre line has a 2400W motor. This has advantages and disadvantages. On the one hand, you'll be able to dry your hair very quickly on the max settings; on the other, such power can damage fragile hair. If your hair is easy to damage, it's best to avoid the highest settings of BaByliss hair dryers.

Revlon hair dryers

Another popular brand at a similar price point is Revlon hair dryers.

Revlon are known for their weird but brilliant designs. One of the more recognisable Revlon hair dryers is their Salon One Step series. These device combines the styling power of hair curlers, crimpers and wavers and hot air stylers with a hair dryer to cut down on the time it takes to perfect your haircut. Another strange device is their coconut oil-infused hair dryer. A regular handheld dryer, its ceramic heating plates have been triple-coated with nourishing coconut oil that leaves your hair visibly smoother and shinier once it's dried.

While these specialist hair dryers are amazing, one thing that isn't is the noise. Revlon hair dryers tend to be a little louder than average, and we've heard a lot of people say that the noise is higher pitch and more grating as a result. If you can put up with the noise however, Revlon hair dryers are set to be one of the best hair dryer brands for most people.

Tresemme hair dryers

The last brand we'll look at today is Tresemme. Tresemme hair dryers might not be as famous as Tresemme shampoo, but they are still a force to be reckoned with. They also happen to be the most budget friendly-brand here, with prices for their basic models starting out at just £14.

For that you get a brilliant basic hair dryer: Multiple speeds and temperature controls let you set the dryer at the perfect settings for your hair style, and a cool shot mode allows you to kill the heat instantly for setting your hair. Tresemme hair dryers also tend to be lightweight and smaller compared to other brands.

These small, basic designs are great if your hair is easy to manage, or if you want a travel hair dryer to take with you on holiday. However, the basic features of the Tresemme hair dryer range can't compete against the more expensive models from other brands; it may be better to choose one of them if your hair needs a little extra care.

Ultimately, whichever of these brands you go with will depend on your individual needs. If price isn’t an issue then Dyson hair dryers are the obvious choice, but if your budget doesn't stretch that far you can still find a brilliant hair dryer among the others listed here. Whichever way you decide to go, investing in a quality hair dryer will ensure that you can achieve beautiful styles safely without compromising on performance or results!
