Where did the Littlest Pet Shop toys come from?
The popular franchise began their journey decades ago in 1992 in the hands of toy manufacturer Kenner, the animated television series based on the super-cute figures then took off a few years later in 1995. Kenner got to work producing an incredible number of LPS toys, creating ever-popular original themes including Ready to Go Pets, Pet Presents, Cozy Home Pets and the incredibly sweet Mommy and Babies sets, to name just a few.
From 2005, the well-known toy manufacturer Hasbro took over production of these collectible models and created five generations of Littlest Pet Shop toys for fans to get their hands on. One of the biggest changes Hasbro introduced was the 'pawsibility' of your little one owning a virtual LPS pet, allowing them to 'adopt' and play online instead of with a physical figurine. Often complete with a fluffy toy, these models are 'pawfect' for the younger generations!
Are Littlest Pet Shop toys collectible?
The Littlest Pet Shop toys have been (and still are!) incredibly collectible fetching impressive prices! Since the very first figures were made in 1992, there's been over 3000 different pet toys manufactured spanning tens of set themes. One of the most valuable Littlest Pet Shop toys that avid collectors are always attempting to get their hands on is the Superhero Cat - said to be the rarest of all the Littlest Pet Shops toys!
To identify a rare LPS, simple consider how often you see it on the market, the harder it is to acquire the rarer it's likely to be. Other highly sought-after models include the Sportiest Dachshund #675, the Sassiest Koala #872 and the Collie #1262. So, if you're little one is building an impressive selection of LPS toys but is missing the crowning glory, keeping an eye out for any one of these super-rare pets is a great idea and makes a wonderful present if you manage to get your hands on one.
