Health tips

1. Wash your hands before expressing or handling breast milk with the breast pump.

2. Apply a hot towel to your breasts before expressing with the breast pump. Massage and stimulate the areola to keep the mammary glands completely open.

3. Express milk at a pressure that suits you and stop when your breasts or nipples feel sore

4. Express only an eighth of your milk (no more than 20 minutes)

5. Use a covered container when storing breastmilk

6. Clean out any breast milk that has been refrigerated for more than 72 hours (3 days).

7. Do not feed frozen breastmilk together with fresh breastmilk

8. Thaw frozen breastmilk or warm it up in a breast warmer and use it for feeding.

9. If your baby does not drink the frozen breastmilk after 24 hours, do not re-chill it, dispose of the rest and sterilise the container.
