The Welshman's Candle Description

Excerpt from The Welshman's Candle: Or the Divine Poems As the Tranllator afi'umes no more Merit to himfelf from this Performance than that it is the only Tran?ation of Mr. Prichard's Poems, hitherto publifh'd, fo he thinks himfelf accountable for the Errors of ibut alone. As to the original Faults and Imperfections of the Work itfelf, or the erroneous Doctrines it may contain,{if anyi' he does not think himfelf refponfible G for them -bu {hall leave the Author (as Mr. Pope fays) to anfwer for them himfelf -and that he may very well do, fince, like Abel, tho' dead, He yet fpeaketh, in this his Work which he has left behind him. I wou'd therefore advife the minor Critics, both in Poetry and Divinity, to take heed how they attack him, F - at leaft, 'till they fhall have, firf't of all, frequently and carefully read over their Bibles for I can afi'ure them that they will find hem-7131105, {iron and mighty in the Scriptures and, iii'aeed, may be allow'd to fpeak, I look upon this whole Work of our Author's, to be an Afi'emblage of many of the molt inl'cru?'tive and dida?tic Parts of Scripture.
