Trading cards
Even though trading cards have one of the lowest number of monthly searches per month (20,800), it doesn’t mean they aren’t worth the investment! Our research can reveal that trading cards might offer the best return on investment, as the Honus Wagner 1909 card sold for a whopping £2.9 million ($3.8m)!
So, whether you’ve got Pokémon, Disney Princesses or football player cards stored at the back of your cupboards, now’s the time to fish them out to be in with the chance of earning some money! Other specific trading cards of value include:
- Magic: The Gathering Alpha Black Lotus card
- Yu-Gi-Oh Black Luster Soldier card

Comic books
Comic books are a hit among Brits thanks to their visually pleasing graphics and intense plots. Not only are they popular to read, they are also big in the investment game thanks to the money they can return, so it’s no wonder Google searches for comic books amass 284,200 each month!
We found that comics can earn you millions, with the first edition of Action Comics from 1938 sold on eBay in 2014 for just over £2.4 million ($3.2m), when the bidder had only put it up for 99 cents (76p)! If you’re looking for comic books to invest in and be in with the chance of earning a small fortune, it’s well worth looking in charity shops, comic book stores and in your attic for any of the following old comics:

Beanie Babies
Remembered for being a massive hit in the ‘90s and early 2000s, Beanie Babies aren’t just the cute cuddly toys you put on your bed anymore – they are now sold for hundreds of thousands across the world. In fact, our analysis can reveal that owning a first edition of one of these can get you close to half a million!
We found that the most expensive bundle of Beanie Babies ever sold included a large Wallace, two regular sized Wallaces, Cashew, and Huggy, which sold a staggering £458,000 ($600,000)! Other Beanie Babies of value include:
- Rainbow
- Valentino
- Princess the Bear
- Bubbles
- Piccadilly Attic

Barbie dolls
The mere mention of a Barbie doll can send any adult on a trip down memory lane, as many Brits spent hours upon hours playing and accessorising the iconic dolls during their childhood. But who would have thought holding onto your old Barbies could make you a small fortune today?
Our research can reveal that the most expensive Barbie doll ever sold was designed by fine jewellery designer Stefano Canturi and went for just under a quarter of a million pounds (£231,000 or $302,500) in 2010. The rare doll, which featured emerald-cut pink diamonds, was made and auctioned to raise money for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

Hot Wheels cars
Although most of these small cars can be bought for only a couple of pounds, if you are able to get your hands on one of the rarest Hot Wheels cars, they could be worth thousands of pounds.
In fact, the 1969 Pink Rear-Loading Beach Bomb is one of the rarest Hot Wheels cars and is said to be worth a whopping £134,000 ($175,000)!

Board games
New board games are being developed every year, there are certain games that can result in an awful lot of money once sold. One of those is Monopoly, an oldie but will always be a goldie to Brits!
In fact, according to our research, the original Monopoly game, made in 1933, is the most expensive board game of all time with one being sold at an auction for a staggering £112,000 ($146,500).

Disney VHS tapes
Despite not many people owning a video tape player today, VHS tapes are one of the most popular investments due to the money you can make from selling them on to collectors – particularly Disney VHS tapes!
If you get your hands on the Disney Black Diamond Collection you may be in luck as, according to our research, a “Beauty and the Beast Black Diamond” VHS tape was sold on eBay for an impressive £11,478 ($15,000)!
