What's the history behind Thunderbirds toys?

As touched on above, Thunderbirds toys were made incredibly popular by the 1960's British television show they were based off. Set in the not-so-far-off future (2065-1067), this series followed the adventures of the Tracy family led by none other than American ex-astronaut Jeff Tracy. With five adult sons, Scott, John, Virgil, Gordon and Alan, they make up a secret organisation that called International Rescue founded to protect and save human life.

Their exploits take them on perilous trips across land, sea, air and even space in an attempt to save anyone in distress. Aided by 'Thunderbird' machines, each of the Tracy brothers were assigned a technologically-advanced vehicle in order to help them on their secret missions, including vehicles such as the Thunderbird 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5. As a result, the vehicles have become just as collectible and popular as the figures themselves!
