Looking to buy Xbox 360?
Often considered one of the great video game consoles of all time, the Xbox 360 launched in 2005 to critical acclaim, and then got a whole lot better! In this department you’ll find everything you need to enjoy Microsoft’s most successful console. You’ll find plenty of 360 consoles themselves, plus a legion of games, including both best-selling hits and unsung indie gems. Rounding out our department is our selection of top Xbox 360 accessories, which include headsets, controllers and weird third-party peripherals galore (remember Guitar Hero?).
Buying an Xbox 360 in the 2020s
In the mid-2000s the console wars pitted the 360 against the Sony's PlayStation 3. A slightly lower price along with the online fun factor of Xbox Live meant that Microsoft’s console won hands down (Yes, Nintendo fans, we know that the Wii outsold both, but that console was geared towards an entirely different market). The 360 was the king of video games in 2010, but that was over a decade ago. Is an Xbox 360 still worth buying? The answer is a definitive yes.
There’s two reasons you’ll want to buy an Xbox 360 in this day and age. The first is budget. While brand new consoles like the the Xbox Series X and S are undeniably more powerful than a decade old console, they’re also way more expensive. At time of writing, the Xbox Series S (the cheaper one) is £250. You can buy a Xbox 360 for less than £100 now. Despite being old, the Xbox 360 doesn’t feel like a a retro video games console. That’s because so much of modern game design principles - like clear level design, natural, ergonomic control schemes and satisfying, fast-paced mechanics - were nailed down at the start of this era.
The other reason you’ll want to buy an Xbox 360 is for backwards compatibility. There are some truly fantastic games from the Xbox 360 era, including the Mass Effect Trilogy, Red Dead Redemption, Bioshock Infinite, Telltale's the Walking Dead and Fallout New Vegas to name but a handful.
While many Xbox 360 games can be played on the Xbox One, some aren’t, and the only way to play them is by booting up the console they were made to be played on. Additionally, there are some absolute classics from the Original Xbox era that are still worth playing (Simpsons: Hit and Run, anyone?). Because of the way it’s sequel console is designed, quite a few of them are playable on the Xbox 360. Two consoles in one? Only with Microsoft's most iconic console!
