Synchronous rectifiers are a new technology. They use special power MOSFETs with extremely low on-resistance instead of rectifier diodes to reduce rectifier losses. This significantly improves the efficiency of DC/DC converters and prevents the dead-time voltage caused by the Schottky barrier voltage. Power MOSFETs are voltage-controlled devices with a linear volt-ampere characteristic when switched on. When using power MOSFETs as rectifiers, the gate voltage must be synchronized with the phase of the rectified voltage to ensure rectification. This is known as synchronous rectification. Synchronous rectification technology significantly reduces rectification loss at the output of the switching power supply, thereby improving conversion efficiency and reducing heat generated by the power supply itself.
