The WM8960 audio codec peripheral board is a low-power, high-quality stereo codec equipped with a 1W stereo Class-D speaker driver and headphone driver.

The WM8960 functions as both a stereo audio ADC and DAC, communicating via the 2S standard audio data protocol (not to be confused with I2C).
This audio codec is feature-rich, including advanced -chip digital signal processing for automatic level control (ALC) of or microphone inputs, a programmable gain amplifier (PGA), noise cancellation and de-chirping, and the ability to configure I2S settings and analog audio paths via software through an I2C interface.
Six flexible analog input pins allow various audio source signal types to be internally routed to the ADC inputs.
These signal types include -level and microphone-level (balanced and unbalanced) sources. This enables you to receive audio signals from computer sound cards, smartphone headphone outputs, electrostatic microphones, MEMS microphones, and more.
The flexible analog signal routing features include PGAs and multiple boost stages, enabling it to accept a wide range of audio signal levels.
