MALTOFER Drops 30ml Medicine used in Established Iron Deficiency Ingredients: 1 ml of drops contain 50 mg of iron as iron (III) hydroxide polymaltose complex. Excipients: flavor, methylhydroxybenzoate, propylhydroxybenzoate, sucrose, purified water. Properties and action Maltofer drops is an iron medicine for the treatment of latent iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia. Iron is an important constituent of hemoglobin, myoglobin and enzymes that contain iron. The treatment of iron deficiency in children up to one year is very important. Iron deficiency in this age can affect brain development. Iron deficiency may be the cause of chronic fatigue, lack of concentration, irritability, nervousness, headache, lack of appetite, increased susceptibility to stress and infections, paleness, cracks in the corners of the mouth (cracks), dry skin, brittle hair and nails, as well as loss of interest in games for children. Maltofer iron droplets in the form of iron III hydroxide polymaltose complex, wherein the single particles are embedded in a carbohydrate polymer (polymaltose). This protection prevents interactions between iron and food and provides the bioavailability of iron. The structure of Maltofer drops is similar to ferritin - a natural depot of iron in the body. Following this similarity, iron is absorbed through natural mechanisms of absorption. Iron III hydroxide polymaltose complex will prooksidativni properties as divalent iron salts. Evidence Treatment of latent iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia (iron deficiency manifest). Prevention of iron deficiency to meet the recommended daily dietary needs during pregnancy and lactation, children, adolescents, women of childbearing age and adults (including vegetaryantsi and old people). Dosage The dosage and duration of treatment depends on the severity of iron deficiency. Manifest iron deficiency, treatment lasts approximately 3-5 months to reach a normal hemoglobin levels. Infants (up to 1 year): Manifest iron deficiency - 10-20 drops per day (25-50 mg iron); Latent iron deficiency - 6-10 drops daily (15-25 mg iron); Prevention - 2-4 drops per day (5-10 mg iron); Children (1-12 years): Manifest iron deficiency - 20-40 drops per day (50-100 mg iron); Latent iron deficiency - 10-20 drops per day (25-50 mg iron); Prevention - 4-6 drops daily (10-15 mg iron); Children (> 12 years), elderly and nursing mothers: Manifest iron deficiency - 40-120 drops per day (100-300 mg iron); Latent iron deficiency - 20-40 drops per day (50-100 mg iron); Prevention - 4-6 drops daily (10-15 mg iron); Pregnant women: Manifest iron deficiency - 80-120 drops per day (200-300 mg iron); Latent iron deficiency - 40 drops per day (100 mg of iron); Prevention - 20-40 drops per day (50-100 mg iron); Prematurity: Manifest iron deficiency - 1-2 drops per day per kg body weight (2,5-5 mg iron). Application The daily dosage may be divided into individual doses or may be administered at one time. Maltofer drops should be administered during or immediately after a meal. Maltofer drops can be mixed with fruit or vegetable juice or milk to the infant. The slight coloring does not affect the taste and efficacy. During pregnancy and lactation, Maltofer drops should be taken only after consulting a doctor or pharmacist. Adverse reactions Occasionally gastrointestinal irritation as a feeling of fullness, heaviness in the epigastric (upper abdomen), nausea, constipation or diarrhea. Dark colored stool in connection with iron is not clinically significant. Maltofer drops do not cause dark staining of the teeth.
