A thermocouple's function is to detect the temperature difference between its hot and cold junctions. The hot junction temperature of a thermocouple can vary from 0 to 1023.75. The cold junction temperature is the ambient temperature around the circuit board where the MAX6675 is mounted, which varies from 20 to 85. Even when the cold junction temperature fluctuates, the MAX6675 can still accurately detect changes in the hot junction temperature. The MAX6675 detects and corrects for ambient temperature changes through cold junction compensation. This device converts the ambient temperature into a temperature compensation voltage via an internal temperature sensing diode. To generate the actual thermocouple temperature measurement, the MAX6675 measures the voltage from both the thermocouple output and the output of the sensing diode. The internal circuitry of this device sends the diode voltage and thermocouple voltage to the ADC.
