The Si4703-C is a complete FM tuner receiver system with FM radio input and stereo output. An integrated digital processor handles the symbol decoding block synchronization required by the Radio Data Broadcasting System (RBDS), as well as error detection and correction. The FM receiver uses a mixer to reduce the RF signal to a low intermediate frequency, thus reducing the need for additional peripheral equipment. Automatic frequency control (AFC) regulates the voltage-controlled oscillator to generate an orthogonal local signal for the mixer. The output of the orthogonal mixer is amplified, filtered, and digitized by a high-resolution analog-to-digital converter (ADC). Digital signal processing enables channel selection, FM demodulation, and stereo audio processing. Internal automatic gain control (AGC) regulates the gain of the low-noise amplifier (LNA) for more sensitive and powerful noise reduction. The integrated regulator can be connected directly to the battery, and the headphone jack can be used as an RF receiving antenna by plugging in headphones. This advanced architecture offers superior performance compared to conventional analog architectures.
The module also features a 150 mW stereo power amplifier with thermal and short-circuit protection, as well as a 3.5 mm headphone jack. When connected to a microcontroller, it can control the volume, automatically and manually search for channels, mute via software or hardware, and measure signal strength.
