The as5048a is a 14-bit rotary position sensor (formerly known as an encoder) for absolute Angle measurement and PWM (pulse width modulation) full rotation output at 360 based non-contact magnetic sensor technology. This device is suitable for shaft applications where a simple two-pole magnet rotates above or below the sensor IC and the zero position can be programmed to a simple SPI command of the device. A serial interface (SPI) with an absolute magnetic Angle position resolution of 14 bits = 16,384 for position measurement, each converted to a digital value.
The AS5048 offers PWM output and SPI or I2C interfaces, providing absolute Angle measurement for microcontrollers. When conducting mechanical design, there is no need to consider the precise pairing of the initial zero position of the chip and the magnetic poles of the magnet it uses. Instead, the solution is that the zero position can be programmed into the internal memory of the AS5048 as early as assembly through simple SPI or I2C commands (without the need for special programming equipment).
The AS5048 also features a very high operating tolerance, including the center position deviation between the chip and the paired magnet, the air deviation between the chip and the paired magnet, and the temperature variation between -40 C and +150 C.
