This is an upgraded version of the Leonardo; it retains the ATmega32U4 control chip, allowing it to directly manage USB communication with a host computer and emulate peripherals such as a keyboard or mouse.

The Esplora's standout feature is the addition of several built-in input devices and sensors, along with various I/O interfaces. It is also designed with the form factor of a game controller. The components added to the board include:
1. A joystick with X/Y axes and a center button, utilizing analog potentiometer inputs
2. Four normally-open pushbuttons
3. A linear potentiometer
4. A microphone
5. A light sensor
6. A temperature sensor
7. A 3-axis accelerometer
8. A buzzer
9. An RGB LED
New interfaces include two TinkerKit I/O and a connector for a color TFT LCD display.
These new hardware features are supported by the latest version of the IDE (v1.0.3).
