In his twenties, Meipu responded to Otto's (Liev Schreiber) request and hid him and his family in his own home to escape Nazi persecution. She and her husband Yang decided to take on this dangerous and arduous task, including taking care of eight refugees including Otto and Anne. During this period, they faced great risks and pressures, but firmly protected these persecuted Jews, providing them with shelter and warmth. Although their hiding plan was eventually exposed in 1944, Meipu preserved Anne's diary during her hiding period.
