According to tradition, the empress style tea strainer takes its name from the Empress Hotel in Victoria BC, Canada which was famous for its high tea at the Empress Tea Room. It is a very popular style in Britain.

With handles, the diameter is 4.25 inches across so recommended for cups & mugs measuring 2.5 to 4 inches diameter at mouth. Drip bowl diameter 2.5 inches, height 1 inch. Strainer with drip bowl weighs 1.2 ounces.
