- The LSM9DS1 is a multifunctional motion-sensing system-on-chip. It is equipped with a 3-axis accelerometer, a 3-axis gyroscope and a 3-axis magnetometer - with 9 degrees of freedom (9DOF) in a single IC! The LSM9DS1 is equipped with a digital interface, but even so it is very flexible: it supports I2C and SPI, so it is difficult to find an unavailable microcontroller. This IMU chip is really cool. We have placed it on the quarter-sized splitter board that you are currently viewing!
- The LSM9DS1 is one of the few ics that can measure the three key characteristics of motion (angular velocity, acceleration and heading) in a single IC. By measuring these three attributes, you can acquire a great deal of knowledge about the movement and direction of the object. The LSM9DS1 measures each of these motion characteristics in three dimensions.
- This means it will generate nine data points: acceleration expressed as x/y/z, angular rotation expressed as x/y/z, and magnetic force expressed as x/y/z. The LSM9DS1 Breakout has tags indicating the axes of the accelerometer and gyroscope, and these tags share a right-handed rule relationship with each other.
- Each sensor in the LSM9DS1 supports a wide range: the accelerometer scale can be set to ±2, 4, 8 or 16 g, the gyroscope supports ±245, 500 and 2000°/ s, and the magnetometer has a scale range of ±4, 8, 12 or 16 gauss.
