What’s a fat quarter? 

Fat quarters are small sheets of fabric that are very popular among the quilting community, usually measuring 50 x 55cm. They can be used for anything, from making patchwork quilts to crafting bags, garments, wallets, cushion covers and so much more. To make a full-sized quilt, you’ll need approximately 12 fat quarters, though you can add as many or as little as you’d like, depending on the size you desire. 

The fabric of your fat quarter is very important. There are many different types to choose from, though if you’re looking for quality and durability, you’re best to choose a cotton variety. Cotton fabric quarters are designed for quilting, coming with a higher thread count that’s oh-so soft to the touch and breathable. Not only that, they’re also suitable for washing, so whether you’ve made a quilt to snuggle up in or a gorgeous garment for your little one, you can keep it fresh as a daisy with minimal effort, perfect! 

Do I need a sewing machine? 

Sewing machines offer a variety of benefits beyond just making a project faster and simpler. They ensure neater and more accurate stitches than hand sewing, and can also make sewing through heavier or denser fabrics (like leather or denim) a breeze.
