Manufacturer's description:
Potassium iodide is a specific blocker of thyroid radio-iodine uptake. This may protect the thyroid in cases of some nuclear accidents. These tablets may be divided and crushed and given in liquids to children too small to swallow pills.
Safety information: Use only as directed. This is not a health supplement. Do not take as an ordinary health supplement; doing so may damage your health. Potassium iodine should only be taken when instructed to do so by official health warnings. Keep away from children. If more than the recommended dose is taken, seek medical help immediately.
Maximum dose:
- Adult: 130mg (1 pill) per day
- Children 3-18 years: 65mg (½ tablet) per day
- Children 1 month-3 years: 32mg (¼ tablet) per day
- Children less than 1 month: 16mg (⅛ tablet) per day
Please note: Potassium iodine will only prevent the uptake of radioactive iodine into the thyroid. It offers no protection against other forms of ionising radiation. During any form of emergency or accident, always follow the instructions of local, regional and national government bodies.
