Products that are prohibited from being listed by sellers

1 Animals and Wildlife

  • 1.1 Animal parts that are deemed as illegal wildlife trade e.g. pangolin and marine turtle body parts including scales, tiger bone and bear bile
  • 1.2 Animal snares, traps or catching devices that would cause harm to an animal by any means during catching
  • 1.3 Dog prong or pinch collars, or any collar that has inward-facing spikes and that would cause harm to the animal
  • 1.4 Electrostatic shock collars used in both training and containment systems for dogs or other animals
  • 1.5 Glue traps used in the capture of rodents and other vertebrates
  • 1.6 Human remains, body parts or any products made from the human body, except for items containing human hair e.g. wigs
  • 1.7 Ivory, ivory trinkets and products containing ivory including teeth sourced from any animal e.g. elephant tusks and elk ivory
  • 1.8 Live animals, pets and reptiles. The following is allowed: Live bait e.g. crickets, earthworms, lugworms, maggots, mealworms & rag worms
  • 1.9 Mounted animal heads obtained from trophy hunting
  • 1.10 Products or media that contain or promote animal abuse
  • 1.11 Taxidermy from a non-approved seller who does not hold a valid licence to sell or export online
  • 1.12 Wildlife items e.g. wild bird eggs

2 Artefacts and Antiquities

  • 2.1 Antiquities, archaeological objects and artefacts
  • 2.2 Native American arts, crafts and jewellery not produced by a certified Indian artisan e.g. Indian Jewellery, Navajo Jewellery

3 Car & Motorbike Parts

  • 3.1 Car parts that lack the necessary local certifications e.g. ECE or CAPA certifications
  • 3.2 Motor vehicles except for electrically assisted pedal cycles (EAPCs), mobility scooters or powered wheelchairs, kids dirt and quad bikes max 50cc, electric ride-on toy bikes, cars and scooters
  • 3.3 Seat belt buckle alarm stoppers
  • 3.4 Used catalytic converters sold by a non-registered car dealer or breaker
  • 3.5 Vehicle airbags that are second hand or from a breakup vehicle due to being classified as a UN Hazard Class 1
  • 3.6 Vehicle seatbelts, seatbelt components and seatbelt pretensioners

4 Clothing, Accessories and Cosmetics

  • 4.1 Clothing with images of explicit profanity or obscene and sexually graphic images e.g. T-shirts, hats
  • 4.2 Clothing with images or logos that infringes on intellectual property rights
  • 4.3 Real fur products obtained from animals farmed for their fur e.g. mink, foxes, raccoon dogs, rabbits and chinchillas
  • 4.4 Used cosmetics, makeup applicators and sponges
  • 4.5 Used socks and underwear e.g. boxer shorts, briefs and pants

5 Digital Media

  • 5.1 Academic or educational versions of software where the licence can only be obtained from an educational institute
  • 5.2 Bootleg recording from a live show or concert
  • 5.3 Copied or duplicated software including "soft-lifted" software
  • 5.4 OEM, bundled or Operating System repair, restore or recovery software sold as standalone and not included with the original hardware
  • 5.5 Open, unsealed software that is subject to licensing agreements and that may have been duplicated or the licence already used
  • 5.6 Software keys, licence keys or unlocking codes including MSDN keys for all software that is delivered by email or delivery
  • 5.7 Software licences for computer software e.g. 1-year licence for Adobe or Microsoft products
  • 5.8 Software on a USB flash drive that includes a licence key or unlocking code including MSDN keys for all software
  • 5.9 Unauthorised digital copies of movies, music, prints, software, videos and video games where the seller provides a download link
  • 5.10 Unauthorised digital downloads of PDF books, E-books and literature where the seller provides a download link

6 Drugs, Drug Paraphernalia and Dietary Supplements

  • 6.1 Full-spectrum cannabinoid extracts e.g. hemp plant extracts including the stalks, leaves and flowers
  • 6.2 Human medication listed by an unlicensed seller or un-registered pharmacy
  • 6.3 Narcotics, steroids, other controlled substances, and all unlicensed medicines
  • 6.4 Pharmacy prescription-only medication that can only be sold by a licensed and registered pharmacist
  • 6.5 Products containing Cannabidiol (CBD) or other cannabinoids, and which also include a quantity of THC or THC-V
  • 6.6 Products that claim a medicinal benefit that is unsubstantiated
  • 6.7 Products that claim to provide a legal high
  • 6.8 Smoking apparatus and other drug paraphernalia
  • 6.9 Veterinary medication not authorised for sale or requiring a prescription by the VMD

7 Food and Beverages

  • 7.1 Any food listed by a seller who does not have a registered business and does not hold a valid licence to sell and distribute food products online
  • 7.2 Any alcoholic beverage listed by a seller who does not have a registered business and does not hold a valid licence to sell and distribute alcohol online
  • 7.3 Food containing endangered or threatened species
  • 7.4 Food containing shark or whale meat
  • 7.5 Food products containing Cannabidiol (CBD) or other cannabinoids e.g. CBD gummy bears
  • 7.6 Food products split from a multipack and labelled with "not for individual sale", "not intended for resale" or similar
  • 7.7 Food products with an expired "use by" or "expiration" date, or if it would not reach the buyer before expiration
  • 7.8 Food products not listing the ingredients and the country of origin on the label and in the product description
  • 7.9 Food products not listing the mandatory nutritional declaration which must be presented clearly in a specific format and gives values for energy and six nutrients
  • 7.10 Food products not listing the name and address of the manufacturer, packer or seller, on the label and in the product description
  • 7.11 Food products not listing the net quantity for items above 5g or 5ml (except herbs and spices), on the label and in the product description
  • 7.12 Food products not listing the process e.g. smoked bacon, salted peanuts or dried fruit, on the label and in the product description
  • 7.13 Food products not listing the Quantitative declaration of ingredients (QUID) which tells a customer the percentage of particular ingredients contained in a food product e.g. pork (80%), on the label and in the product description
  • 7.14 Food products that are not properly labelled following local food regulations, or labelled in a way that confuses consumers e.g. different language
  • 7.15 Food products that contain any of the known 14 allergens, but a warning is not listed on the label and in the product description
  • 7.16 Food products that contain Genetically Modified Organisms, but a warning is not listed on the label and in the product description
  • 7.17 Food products that contain any form of an illegal or prohibited drug
  • 7.18 Sweets designed to resemble illegal drugs, drug paraphernalia or tobacco products

8 Guns and Ammunition

  • 8.1 Ammunition, kits and associated parts of firearms e.g. silencers, magazines
  • 8.2 Firearms, including pistols, rifles and shotguns
  • 8.3 Military weaponry including grenades and explosives
  • 8.4 Stun guns and tasers
  • 8.5 Tear gas, pepper spray and mace

9 Hazardous and Dangerous Items

  • 9.1 Acids such as sulphuric acid and hydrochloric acid
  • 9.2 Biocides and pesticides that are harmful chemical products
  • 9.3 Combustible materials e.g. black powder, explosive fuses, explosive targets, flares, flash paper, red phosphorous, gasoline, thermite, caps for toy guns
  • 9.4 Explosive precursors - see government guidelines for full list e.g. sulphuric acid, sodium nitrate
  • 9.5 Fire extinguishers that contain carbon tetrachloride or pyrene
  • 9.6 Fireworks in categories F2, F3 and F4 e.g. aerial bombs, shells, bangers, firecrackers, skyrockets, etc.
  • 9.7 Furnishing material that does not comply with government regulations for flammability
  • 9.8 Gases which are hazardous e.g. acutely toxic gases, corrosive gases, flammable gases, pyrophoric gases, dangerously reactive gases and oxidising gases
  • 9.9 Radioactive materials
  • 9.10 Toxic substances such as poisons and cancer-causing carcinogenic substances

10 Intellectual Property

  • 10.1 Counterfeit products including fakes, copies or replicas of brand name items that may be deemed to deceive the purchaser
  • 10.2 Listing of OEM, bundled, backup or recovery software
  • 10.3 Listing of open, unsealed software that is subject to a licensing agreement as it may have been duplicated or the licence already been used
  • 10.4 Listing of unauthorised copies of books, movies, music, prints, software, videos and video games
  • 10.5 Listing of unauthorised copies of digital downloads e.g. PDF books, E-books, pictures, movies or music
  • 10.6 Listing a product which includes a description that encourages downloading unauthorised media
  • 10.7 Listing a product which includes copyrighted photos, images or text used on the product page
  • 10.8 Listing a product which infringes on intellectual property rights
  • 10.9 Unauthorised listing of a product in a specific country or region without the rights owner's consent (parallel or grey import)
  • 10.10 Unauthorised listing of a product that was made using a copied invention and which holds a registered patent
  • 10.11 Unauthorised listing of a product which has a similar look, shape or configuration to another product which holds a design patent
  • 10.12 Unauthorised listing that includes a trademarked brand misplaced in the title of a third party product
  • 10.13 Unauthorised listing that includes a trademarked brand, colour, logo, name, phrase, sound, symbol or word
  • 10.14 Unauthorised listing that includes a trademarked logo used as part of a product image or description
  • 10.15 Utilising a scraping tool to obtain product data and images from other marketplaces for the intent of creating bulk listings

11 Knives & Offensive Weapons

  • 11.1 Batons - straight, side-handled or friction-lock truncheons
  • 11.2 Blowpipes ('blow gun') - a hollow tube out of which hard pellets or darts are shot by the use of breath
  • 11.3 Butterfly knives or Balisongs - a blade hidden inside a handle that splits in the middle
  • 11.4 Disguised knives - a blade or sharp point hidden inside, disguised as an everyday object e.g. buckle, phone, brush or lipstick
  • 11.5 Flick knives, Switchblades or Automatic knives - a blade hidden inside a handle which shoots out when a button is pressed
  • 11.6 Gravity knives - a blade contained in its handle and that opens its blade by the force of gravity
  • 11.7 Handclaws or Footclaws - a band of metal or other hard material from which several sharp spikes protrude, and worn around the hand
  • 11.8 Hollow kubotans - a cylinder-shaped keychain holding spikes
  • 11.9 Knuckledusters or Brass knuckles - a band of metal or other hard material worn on one or more fingers
  • 11.10 Kusari (or 'manrikigusari') - a weight attached to a rope, cord, wire
  • 11.11 Kusari-gama - a sickle attached to a rope, cord or wire
  • 11.12 Kyoketsu-shoge - a hook-knife attached to a rope, cord or wire
  • 11.13 Push daggers and Push knives - a short-bladed dagger with a "T" handle designed to be grasped in the hand
  • 11.14 Shurikens (also known as 'shaken', 'death stars' or 'throwing stars')
  • 11.15 Slasher knives used for cockfighting
  • 11.16 Stealth knives - a knife or spike not made from metal (except when used at home, for food or a toy)
  • 11.17 Sword-sticks - a hollow walking stick or cane containing a blade
  • 11.18 Swords and Samurai swords - any curved blade over 50cm
  • 11.19 Telescopic truncheons - extend automatically by pressing button or spring in the handle
  • 11.20 Zombie knives - a knife with a cutting edge, a serrated edge and images or words suggesting it is used for violence

12 Medical Devices

  • 12.1 Contact lenses of any type, including zero-powered, plano-cosmetic and powered contact lenses, sold by a non-registered optometrist, dispensing optician or medical practitioner
  • 12.2 Hearing aids listed by a non-approved seller and who is not a licensed dispenser
  • 12.3 Medical devices that exclude the required CE or UKCA marking
  • 12.4 Medical devices that require a prescription
  • 12.5 Medical devices that require but have not been registered with the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA)

13 Offensive and Controversial Materials

  • 13.1 Products marketed or targeted at kids or teenagers that are age-inappropriate
  • 13.2 Products that are anti-Semitic or bear a swastika
  • 13.3 Products that are Holocaust-related or nazi-related items including reproductions
  • 13.4 Products that are related to human tragedies and natural disasters
  • 13.5 Products that are related to terrorist organisations
  • 13.6 Products that contain racially derogatory language
  • 13.7 Products that contain violent or offensive material, with or without historical significance
  • 13.8 Products that depict child abuse or exploitation
  • 13.9 Products that glorify or promote suicide
  • 13.10 Products that glorify, promote or incite hate or violence towards any group or person
  • 13.11 Products that promote intolerance based on race, religion, or sexual orientation

14 Plants and seeds

  • 14.1 Endangered plants and seeds which are protected under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species
  • 14.2 Hallucinogenic mushrooms e.g. psilocybin mushrooms, Amanita muscaria, fly agaric, and Amanita pantherina
  • 14.3 Invasive non-native aquatic plants e.g. water fern (Azolla filiculoides), parrot's feather (Myriophyllum aquaticum), floating water pennywort (Hydrocotyle ranunculoides), water primrose (Ludwigia grandiflora), Australian swamp stonecrop, also known as New Zealand Pygmy weed (Crassula helmsii, also sold as Tilia)
  • 14.4 Plants or parts of a plant from which hallucinogenic substances are sourced e.g. dimethyltryptamine (DMT), d-lysergic acid amide (LSA) and opiates
  • 14.5 Plants or seeds prohibited by government regulations
  • 14.6 Toxic or poisonous plants and seeds e.g. Tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum), Oleander (Nerium oleander), Rosary Pea (Abrus precatorius), Castor Bean (Ricinus communis), White Snakeroot (Ageratina altissima), Deadly Nightshade (Atropa belladonna), Water Hemlock (Cicuta maculata), etc.

15 Product Safety

  • 15.1 Any product which has been subject to a safety recall by the manufacturer or local government agency
  • 15.2 Child car safety seats that do not comply with government safety regulations
  • 15.3 Class 3B and Class 4 lasers with output power greater than 5 milliwatts (mW)
  • 15.4 Giant lighters, child appealing lighters, or lighters disguised as an everyday object
  • 15.5 Listing of any electronic product which has the incorrect electric plug type attached to the mains lead
  • 15.6 Products that legally require a CE mark, but do not have one e.g. machinery, medical devices, radio and telecommunications terminal equipment, construction products, children's toys, hoverboards, personal protective equipment, etc.

  • 16.1 Cordless telephones that operate at a frequency below 853MHz and/or don't comply with regulations
  • 16.2 Electronic surveillance equipment including wiretapping devices and phone bugging devices
  • 16.3 Modchips designed to allow video games to play pirated games
  • 16.4 Radio transmitters and cordless phones that don't comply with the DECT standard or operate within permitted bands
  • 16.5 Signal jamming devices for mobile phones and GPS radar
  • 16.6 Television descrambler devices used to descramble satellite/TV receivers
  • 16.7 Traffic light remote controlling devices
  • 16.8 Video senders that operate in the frequency 470-854MHz

17 Sex & Adult Material

  • 17.1 Hard pornographic materials, such as films rated X, XXX or R18 by the British Board of Film Classification
  • 17.2 Indecent, obscene nudity or sexually explicit art, articles, books, cards, engravings, prints, paintings, publications, videos and computer games
  • 17.3 Media or products containing child or juvenile pornography
  • 17.4 Used soiled undergarments

18 Tobacco, E-Cigarettes and Paraphernalia

  • 18.1 E-liquids that contain THC or are worded in a way and/or show imagery that would appeal to minors
  • 18.2 Herbal cigarettes or herbal tobacco, e.g. nicotine-free or tobacco-free cigarettes or shisha
  • 18.3 Nicotine containing products except for smoking cessation products e.g. nasal & mouth sprays, gums, lozenges and patches
  • 18.4 Tobacco, or any product that contains tobacco, such as blunt wraps, cigarettes, cigars, dipping tobacco, chewing tobacco, snus and other smokeless tobacco products
