Types of hats for work
Whatever your job is, you’ll find plenty of great work hats that suit the needs of your profession. Our collection includes amazing mens work hats and womens work hats. An excellent example is the variety of chefs hats you’ll find in this category. We have traditional skull caps that sit close to your head and keep the hair that would sit across your brow neatly tucked in. We also have a selection of modern mesh hats. Often seen perched on the heads of cafeteria workers, these hats for work allow your scalp to breathe while still preventing strands of hair from escaping into your customers' food.
Another popular kind of hats for work are the ‘bump’ caps. These baseball cap style hats have a unisex design, makking them suitable as womens work hats and mens work hats. These hats provide a little protection against bumps and scraps if you’re working in environments with low head clearance. They don’t provide the same protection as hard hats but they’re well suited for garages and similar interior workplaces.
Are these work hats only for certain professions?
You don’t have to work in a particular field to make use of these work hats. Chef hats and kitchen mesh caps are a great companion in your kitchen, as they’ll keep stray hairs out of your home cooking. Likewise certain nurses hats are a practical way of keeping your hair out of the way when you’re applying first aid to your family. Hi-vis hats are useful on dangerous building sites but they’ll also help keep you visible if you go cycling as well! And of course there are always fancy dress parties! If you’re going as a construction worker or chef for halloween this year, one of these work hats will truly top off your costume!
Frequently asked questions about work hats
Should my work hat touch my ears?
Your work hat should sit around 3mm above your ears. Before buying your hat, check the size against your head measurement to make sure you aren't buying one that is too big or too small.
Should I wear dark or bright colours?
If your hat is for wearing in the dark or on a construction site, a bright, visible colour will ensure you are seen and stay safe. If you're wearing your hat in very cold weather, dark colours will help to absorb and retain heat from the sun, keeping you warm and toasty.
How can I see if my hat is too big?
Most work hats have a band around the circumference of the inside. This band should fit snuggly on your head without being too loose or too tight. If you can slip one finger between your forehead and the band easily then it is the right size for you.
What colour should I wear if it's hot outside?
Light colours such as white, cream, and pale blue are ideal for wearing in the heat as they don't absorb as much heat as dark colours and will help to keep you feeling cool.
What size should I get for my hat?
You should always make sure you choose the correct size hat for your head. Measure the circumference of your head, just above your ears with a tape measure or piece of string. Select the size that corresponds to the measurement you get. The hat should fit comfortably but not too snugly. You should be able to easily fit a finger between the band and your head without it being too tight or too loose.
