Looking to buy Hob & Oven Sets?
Perhaps you’re moving into a brand new, unfurnished kitchen. Maybe you want to upgrade your existing set. Whatever the reason, sometimes buying an oven or a set of hobs alone won’t cut it: You need both at once! Enter our category of hobs and oven sets - it’s exactly what you think it is.
Hob types
You’ll find that our hob and oven sets are just as diverse as our stand-alone categories. Let’s start with hobs: you can choose between gas, electric and induction hobs. That’s quite a selection, so which one is best for you?
Let’s start with electric hobs. Old school electric hobs run an electrical current through thick heating coils. This creates a huge amount of electrical resistance, which eventually turns into heat energy. You’ll still find some hob and oven sets with traditional electric hobs in them, but you’re more likely to find new ceramic hobs instead. These newer hobs use similar technology to regular electric hobs, but their ceramic plates and glass surfaces heat up way faster than an ordinary hot plate, and they’re easier to clean, too.
However, while ceramic hobs heat up quickly, they’re not as fast to cool down. This makes precise temperature control somewhat tricky. If you want to tweak the heat while you’re cooking, grab a hob and oven set with gas hobs instead. Gas hobs use natural gas to cook, which usually makes them cheap to run, and as soon as you turn the dial the heat changes. Some gas hobs are more powerful than others. Look out for sets with a super powerful wok burner if you want to raise the heat as fast as possible.
The final type of hob you can choose is induction hobs. These are technically a type of electric hob, but rather than electrical resistance, they use magnetic resistance to generate heat. This means they only heat up if there’s something magnetic on top. They’re just as effective as ceramic hobs but so much safer. However, not all pots and pans work with them. Explore our induction pots and pans to find a range of compatible choices.
Oven types
Your choice in ovens is a little simpler. Gas ovens are still made but almost all the ones you’ll see here are electric fan ovens. These ovens blow hot air around their compartment to make sure your food cooks consistently and is delicious with every bite. Some ovens in these sets have single compartments, while others double up or have a built in grill, letting you cook different recipes at the same time - delicious!
Another option if you want an oven and a set of hobs at the same time is to buy one of the freestanding cookers. These single appliances have the hobs attached to the grill, so you have less freedom to separate them out. But they are great for small kitchens, and are cheaper. Make sure to check out our category!
