Whether they’re of hearty home cooked meals, mum’s amazing roast potatoes or just time spent together, so many wonderful memories are made around food. We can all remember that one incredible restaurant dish we wish we could replicate, or our favourite food our mums made when we were little. Cooking is an excellent skill to have. It can help bring back memories of special people and amazing places and it can be tonnes of fun to explore different recipes and flavours. Help to make mealtimes as fun and enjoyable as it possibly can be with the perfect hob and cooker to make it on.

Gas hobs or Electric hobs?

Whether you are looking at purchasing a gas, electric or even induction hob, each has its own pros and cons to consider.

Gas tends to heat up faster and needs less time to preheat while electric tends to be safer due to the lack of open flame. Gas hobs are easier to control in terms of intensity of heat as you cook however they may not be particularly energy efficient as a lot of heat can escape around the sides of the pan you are using. Electric hobs heat up slower and don’t adjust temperature as fast but they give you a more accurate application of heat to the pan.

Induction hobs are an entirely different ball game. They work by heating your pan through electrical induction via copper wire rather than by thermal conduction. Induction hobs don’t actually create any heat or flames on their own and only create heat when the correct kind of pan is used on them, meaning it is potentially safer than a traditional gas or electric hob. They can be a bit harder to control when it comes to using only a small amount of heat though but the amount of energy and heat wasted by an induction hob is much lower, so if you’re trying to be more eco-friendly, this may be a good option for you.

Generally speaking, most of the hobs you will use will be built into a freestanding cooker unit or the worktop. This is to ensure safety and convenience but sometimes you may need a portable hob to cook on. Perhaps you’re going camping and need something to cook over in the great outdoors, or perhaps you want a free-standing hotplate to place in the centre of the table to keep your food warm before it is ready to serve? Whatever you need it for, it can be useful to have a portable hob.

So whether you’re a wannabe chef, a hearty home cook or a part-time baker, help make mealtimes fun and create wonderful memories with your cooking!
