GENERAL DESCRIPTION

These Bulbs Are Exceptionally Large For A Small Fritillaria, So Will Throw Beautiful Strong Outstanding Blooms.

This Is The Uva-Vulpis Fritillary (Fritillary Just Meaning Chequered, Describing The Mosaic Patterning On The Flower) This Native Of Iran, Iraq & Turkey Flowers At The Tail End Of March, Lasting All Through April And Well Into May. They Grow Wild In Some Very Harsh Areas, So As Garden Plants They Are Usually Happy & Hardy, Possible The Easiest Of All Fritillaries. It Is Sometimes Recommended To Plant Fritillary Bulbs On Their Sides, As Their Split Or Cracked Shape Otherwise Permits Them To Accumulate Water In Their Hearts So That They Could Rot Rather Than Fully Perennialise.

Uva-Vulpis Is A Perennial With Alternate, Lance-Shaped, Glossy, Mid-Greenleaves. Each Stem Bears Singular, Sometimes Paired, Narrow, Bell-Shaped Pendant, Glaucous Flowers, One Inch Long, Dark Brownish-Purple On The Outside And Tinted Yellow Within, With Deep Yellow Tips. Uva-Vulpis Have A Subtle Wildflower Grace And Charm. The Upright Stems Are Oddly Hinged Or Bent, Making It Look A Bit Like The Fritllary Is Dangling From A Hangmans Beam

Plant In Small Unregimented Drifts, In The Open Or Slight Shade, Perhaps In Rough Grass Or Fertile Soil. They Are Also Perfect For Naturalising In A Moist Woodland Or Wildflower Garden. Plants Are Extremely Hardy And Trouble Free. This Skunky-Smelling Bulb Is Rodent Repellant
