Prunus laurocerasus.

Also known as Common Laurel or Cherry Laurel.

A wide, spreading, evergreen shrub planted extensively as a hedge in the U.K and Ireland.

The leaves of Cherry Laurel are large, leathery and dark shining green.

Very attractive in April when it bears erect, terminal clusters of small white flowers.

Small cherry-like fruits, red at first, turning black follow the flowers but these can be harmful if eaten.

There are few evergreens more tolerant of shade and drips from overhanging trees than Prunus laurocerasus.

When used as a hedge, plants should be placed in a single row about 12 inches apart.

The Cherry Laurel dislikes shallow chalk soils and overly wet sites.

Can attain a height and spread of 6m x 6m if left untrimmed
