Not happy with this unit at all. First of all it is very slow. The main interface is decently snappy, but as soon as you are using apps it is very bad. The worst for me has been Google maps. It is basically unusable. It is so slow that it makes it hard to follow when navigating. And that is if it even loads where you want to go. Then even after dealing with that, the GPS is horrible. Signal gets lost all the time, you will be sat at a traffic light and your position on the map will move about a lot. Its even worse on the sat nav software provided. The GPS is just not accurate at all, it makes navigation extremely difficult. And I've tried moving the receiver to different places but nothing helped.
I actually got hold of a standalone sat nav and used it alongside this, the standalone sat nav was perfect. No jumping about, accurate and smooth.
Apps also like to crash a lot. As I'm driving YouTube music will crash, and since I'm driving I cannot simply restart it. Even Google maps has crashed a few times as I was using it to navigate!
Then the 4g, for me it does not even work. Tried many sim cards and it won't have any of it. So I suppose I have to say that the 4g is no good at all.
Then the way it integrates with the car. The bmw professional radio has to be in aux to have sound from the unit. But the unit has no radio built in. I got the capital fm app, but the issue is I have to open the app everytime I start the car. And I have to go to the app tray to get to it. So when I go to a petrol station and refuel, when I get back in I have to set it up again! This is very irritating. They do say you can get a dab adapter for it, but there is no radio app integrated with the unit, so you would have to open it every time. This does not make for a pleasant experience. Also its unfair that they advertise the unit in a way that makes it seem like dab is included...
The interface also removes a lot of normal android. So it's a locked down system. Some units are proper android and you can basically use it the same way as you would android on a phone, this is not like that.
They include a digital gauge app that shows revs, speed, etc. But it is very slow to update. So you rev, and it takes a few seconds for it to be shown on the unit. So it's not useful at all.
Using this unit makes my bmw feel cheap. It makes all the other premium things my bmw has feel ruined. It does not provide a streamline experience at all. And the idrive knob they provide is made from the cheapest possible plastic and feels really bad. It even sounds really bad. The experience really does ruin the feel of the car.
So incase you don't want to read all of that, I'll outline it here. Do not buy this product. It makes the car interior look a bit better, but using it does not feel premium at all and makes the bmw feel cheap. It functionality is basic and extremely slow, apps crash and the GPS is not usable.
