What are Swell Filter Pumps?

Swell Filter Pumps are our best-selling solids-handling pond pumps. They're low maintenance and very energy efficient. Suitable for small to large ponds, Swell Filter Pumps have flow rates from 1500-17000 lph. They can pass particles up to 8 mm, come with a 10 m cable and have a 40 mm hose size. Made in Germany, these fish pond pumps are designed for pumping water from your pond to a pond filter, waterfall or stream. They have an excellent reputation with our customers and are known for keeping fish and ponds healthy.

What are the benefits of solids-handling pumps?

Solids-handling pumps use the entire pump cage to prevent large items (or fish) from being sucked in. Small particles such as sludge, grit and debris can pass straight through. They're also very easy to maintain and provide a more consistent flow of water to the filter.

Can pumps block?

If enough particles larger than 4 mm pass through the pump cage, they can cause a blockage. While this can break some pumps, the Swell Filter Pumps are equipped with a thermal cut-off switch that temporarily disables the pump to prevent lasting damage.

What size pump do I need for my pond?

Selecting what size pond pump to run your filtration system is one of the most important things to consider when setting up your pond. Flow rates drop the higher and further your pump pumps water, so you need to take this into consideration. You should aim to purchase a pump that meets the maximum flow rate of your filter at its height above pond level.

You'll need to consider how you'll get power to your pump. To comply with UK electrical legislation, pond appliances can't be supplied with a fitted plug, so you'll need to purchase one separately or wire it into an outdoor socket. A 10 m cable is provided. You'll also need some ribbed anti-kink pond hose and some hose clips to keep the hose firmly attached to the pump.
