Average yields of large well flavoured fruit can be picked during August and September. For the best results Blackberry Merton Thornless should be planted approximately 8 - 10ft apart in full sun or half shade. Prefers a light well drained soil. The compact growth of Merton Thornless makes it ideal for a smaller garden. Blackberry bushes require little care. Water them when conditions become dry, especially if this occurs when the berries are forming. An annual dressing of well-rotted compost in spring will see Blackberries through the season. Where compost is not available use a log lasting fertiliser such as bonemeal. Blackberries are self-fertile and will produce fruit even if only one plant is grown.
