Blokus Board Game | Award-Winning Pattern Creation Game Description
Think out side the 'block' with Blokus, the award-winning pattern creation game of wits and strategy. The original Blokus game was first developed by French mathematician and board games fan Bernard Tavitian in 2000. This board game was so fun to play that it soon made regular appearances at board game conventions all over the world.
Here's how you play: Every Blokus board game begins with an empty board. Each player is assigned a group of multisided playing pieces in a single colour. The first piece of each colour is placed in the corners of the board.
These colourful playing pieces look a lot like Tetris blocks and you are supposed to connect them, but instead of fitting them into a seamless line like the classic Russian video game, the aim in a Blokus game is to connect your pieces by their corners only. Eventually your squiggly lines of Blokus pieces will get so complicated that no one can put down any more. Then players count up the pieces they could not fit onto the board. The person with the fewest remaining wins!
Because the rules of Blokus are so easy to learn, it's a great board game to pick up for younger children before a holiday or a school break. Although it's simple to play, like the best board games, Blokus is hard to master. Unlike checkers or chess, there is no limit to which pieces you can put down where, so long as they're connected by a corner. This creates a truly dizzying number of possible game boards. Even a grand master of the Blokus board game will rarely see the same board twice.
It's also great for encouraging children to think outside the box and study patterns. With enough practice your little one will soon scupper their opponents plans with clever block placement and win the game by placing all of their Blokus blocks on the board. This board game is so clever that it won a Mensa Select board game competition in 2004 for being “original, challenging and well designed!”
