How does clotrimazole work?

Clotrimazole kills most fungi that cause infections in humans.

Clotrimazole is particularly effective against fungi that attack the skin: yeasts and dermatophytes.

Indications

Clotrimazole is used for the topical treatment of:

-athlete's foot, groin, body, and skin between the toes, including athlete's foot with secondary infection (e.g., athlete's foot) caused by dermatophytes;

-fungal infections of the skin and mucous membranes of the external genitalia (labia, foreskin, and glans penis) caused by yeasts (also called candidiasis);

-pityriasis versicolor.
