What is MAXON FORTE and what is it used for:

MAXON FORTE contains the active substance sildenafil, which belongs to the group of drugs from the group of phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitors. The drug works by supporting the relaxation of blood vessels in the penis, increasing blood flow to the penis during sexual arousal.

MAXON FORTE helps achieve an erection only if previously sexually aroused.

MAXON FORTE is used to treat erectile dysfunction in adult men, i.e. impotence defined as the inability to achieve or maintain an erection of the penis sufficient for sexual intercourse.

How to use MAXON FORTE:

• Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.
• The recommended starting dose is 50 mg.
• MAXON FORTE should not be taken more than once a day.
• Do not take MAXON FORTE film-coated tablets at the same time as other medicines containing sildenafil (e.g. Viagra).
• MAXON FORTE should be taken about an hour before planned sexual activity. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
• If you feel that the effect of MAXON FORTE is too strong or too weak, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
• MAXON FORTE will only allow you to achieve an erection if you are sexually stimulated. The time it takes for MAXON FORTE to work varies from person to person, usually from half an hour to one hour. It may work later if you take it after a heavy meal.
• You should contact your doctor if you do not get an erection after taking MAXON FORTE or if your erection does not last long enough to complete sexual intercourse.

What MAXON FORTE contains:

The active substance in MAXON FORTE is sildenafil. Each tablet contains 50 mg of sildenafil (as sildenafil citrate).

When not to use MAXON FORTE:

• If you are allergic to sildenafil or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6 of this leaflet).
• If you are taking nitrates, as taking them together may lead to a dangerous decrease in blood pressure. Tell your doctor if you are taking any medicines from this group - these medicines are often given to relieve the symptoms of angina pectoris ("chest pain"). If you are not sure, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
• If you are taking medicines that release nitric oxide (such as amyl nitrite, so-called poppers), as taking them together may also lead to a dangerous decrease in blood pressure.
• If you are taking riociguat. This is a medicine used to treat pulmonary hypertension (i.e. high blood pressure in the lungs) and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (i.e. high blood pressure in the lungs caused by blood clots). PDE5 inhibitors such as MAXON FORTE have been shown to increase the blood pressure lowering effect of this medicine. If you are taking riociguat or are unsure, tell your doctor.
• If you have severe heart or liver problems.
• If you have recently had a stroke or heart attack, or in cases of low blood pressure.
• If you have a hereditary degenerative disease of the retina, such as retinitis pigmentosa.
• If you have ever had vision loss due to nonarteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy.
