Beta-glucan is a type of soluble fiber that is readily found in oat and barley grain as well as some types of mushrooms and algae. Like all fibers, it forms a natural component of cell walls and is largely indigestible. Because fiber is not digested in the stomach, it passes through the body's digestive tract without being absorbed. This allows it to play several key roles in maintaining general health.
