How to Make Hot Ice

First, set aside some Sodium Acetate Tirhydrate (about 0.05g, enough to pinch between your fingers), this will be used to start the solution solidifying, if you cannot (see below).

Place 100g of Sodium Acetate Trihydrate (SAT) directly into a pan. Now begin heating the SAT in the pan on a medium-to-high heat and the SAT will begin to melt. Once all the solid SAT has melted and the SAT begins to boil, add 25ml of Water. Allow the solution to simmer for about 1-2 minutes, to ensure that there is no solid SAT left.

The solution should now remain a liquid when you remove the pan from the heat. If it does not and the solution begins to solidify, add some more water (but only very small amounts) until the SAT solution remains a liquid. However, 25ml of water added to 100g of SAT produces a good stable solution.

Adding too much water will stop the solution solidifying when cool.

Once the SAT solution is liquid, pour or spoon into a glass (with a smooth internal surface, which stops pre-mature solidification) and place in the fridge for 3-4 hours to cool.

Once cool, remove from the fridge and touch the solution, it will transform into solid SAT in front of you. If you are having trouble getting the cool SAT solution to solidify (due to it being too stable), then just drop a small solid bit of SAT into the solution and this will start to process.
