Gurmar (Gymnaema sylvestris) is an Indian plant belonging to the toin family (Apocynaceae). In Ayurveda, it is used in weight control and improved metabolism. Gurmar inhibits the feeling of sweet taste and has a hypoglycaemic effect, which is why it is called a "sugar buster".

Gurmar GS4 contains an extract standardised to 75% gymnamic acids.

The main compounds responsible for the biological activity of gurmar are glycosides - gymnamic acids. These substances stimulate insulin secretion, regenerate cells of the pancreas, stimulate the absorption of glucose in skeletal muscles, inhibit the absorption of glucose in the small intestine, reduce appetite for sweet products, increase the activity of enzymes responsible for glucose consumption, reduce glycogen levels in the liver. Gymnamic acids block flavour receptors and inhibit the feeling of sweet or bitter taste.

Regular supplementation with gurmar extract affects: glucose and lipid metabolism, appetite control, maintaining normal blood sugar levels, protecting the body against oxidative degradation.
