About Shoe Trees & Shapers
Accidentally bought a pair of stunning shoes that are a size too small? Don't worry! With our vast online collection of shoe shapers, you'll be able to stretch them into shape in no time. Plus, our helpful range of shoe trees also comes in handy for maintaining this shape no matter how often you show them off in public. With shoe trees and shapers from the likes of tectake, vidaXL, and Premier Housewares, you'll have endless options to explore!
Is a shoe tree the same as a shoe stretcher?
No, while they have a similar shape, shoe trees are specially designed to support the material of your shoe and prevent creases, whereas shoe stretchers aim to actually stretch the material for a more comfortable fit. Shoe stretchers come in handy if you have irregularly-shaped feet, bunions, or you've snapped up a pair of shoes that are slightly too small for your feet. They work to expand both the width and length of your shoes to prevent the creation of blisters and other painful foot conditions caused by tight shoes.
A shoe tree, on the other hand, is typically made from either wood or plastic and is easily inserted into your shoe to help maintain the shape. As you walk, you'll notice that some shoes (leather shoes in particular!) have fine lines and creases appear. When you remove your shoes and leave them in this creased position overnight, these lines can deepen to leave your footwear looking worn-out and in need of replacement. With a shoe tree stopping the sole from curling and supporting the leather structure, you can prevent this from happening and help your shoes to remain in prime condition for longer.
Are wooden shoe shapers better than plastic?
While there are various factors that determine the quality of a shoe shaper including a similar shape to real feet (rather than a symmetrical shape), spring-loaded parts, and a fully articulated heel, it's worth keeping your eye out for some wooden shoe shapers. We suggest looking out for shoe shapers made from unvarnished American Red Cedar Heartwood. This is the strongest wood taken from the centre of the American Red Cedar tree that has the ability to prevent lining rot by absorbing sweat moisture. It also boasts a refreshing pine fragrance thanks to the wood's natural oils.
