Looking to buy Cotton Yarn?
Soft, durable and elastic, cotton yarn is a knitting favourite for a reason. Whether you’re knitting scarves for winter, a summery shirt or dress or an awesome accessory, cotton yarn is a great material to choose for your next project!
Reasons to pick cotton yarn
There are loads of reasons why you should knit your next project from cotton yarn. Cotton is an amazing fiber family that’s great to wear all year round. It’s light and breathes well, so you can use it to knit summer clothing and accessories, but it also retains heat fairly well too, so a jumper woven from cotton yarn is warm for the colder months.
Strong, durable and machine washable, cotton yarn starts out super soft and only gets softer the more you wear it. It also holds its form well and doesn’t pill. (Pilling is when fabric forms small balls of fluff on the clothing’s surface.)
These are all great reasons to choose cotton yarn over other materials, and we haven’t even reached cotton’s most famous strength. Cotton yarn dyes really easily, and so can be coloured with all kinds of shades. Our cotton yarn collection wouldn’t be complete if you couldn’t buy all kinds of fantastic colours, and our verified sellers have delivered with aplomb. Grab sunshine yellows, mysterious magentas, royal blues, passionate reds and luxurious purples - whatever colour you want your next project to be, you’ll find the right cotton yarn here!
Pure cotton or blended cotton?
Many of the cotton yarn rolls you can find for sale on OnBuy are made from 100% pure cotton, but you’ll also find cotton yarn blended with synthetic fibres. These fibres are normally polyester, hence the name poly cotton blends. Pure cotton yarn is fabulous for all of the reasons we’ve already mentioned. So why would you want yarn made from poly cotton blend?
One answer is that poly cotton yarn is typically cheaper than yarn made from just cotton, but that’s not the only reason. Cotton on its own has a matte appearance, but blending it with polyester or another synthetic fibre gives the yarn a more sheen, glossy appearance, and a unique texture too.
