What Is Bokashi Composting?

Bokashi means fermented organic matter. The system uses bran activated with effective microorganisms and molasses. When sprinkled over food waste inside the sealed bucket, it promotes fermentation instead of rotting, allowing faster and cleaner processing of food scraps.

How It Works - Step by Step

• Add cooked or uncooked food scraps to the bucket.
• Sprinkle Bokashi bran over each layer of food waste.
• Press down firmly to remove air pockets.
• Keep the lid tightly closed at all times.
• Drain liquid regularly using the tap.
• Once full, leave sealed for 2 to 3 weeks to complete fermentation.

Before First Use - Installation and Setup

• Fit the tap securely into the base of the bucket.
• Insert the drainage tray inside the bucket.
• If included, fit the polystyrene leg beneath the tray.
• Place a sheet of newspaper over the tray.
• Add a base layer of Bokashi bran and begin composting.

No plumbing or electricity required. Suitable for use under a kitchen sink or in utility rooms.

What To Do With The Fermented Waste

• Dig into soil and cover with 3 to 4 inches of earth.
• Add to a compost heap and layer with soil and garden waste.
• Add carefully to a wormery and avoid overfeeding.

Liquid Feed

Drain liquid regularly and dilute before use. For plants use 1 teaspoon per 5 litres of water. For trees and shrubs use 2 teaspoons per 5 litres of water. Do not apply directly to foliage. Use within 24 to 48 hours.
