Big K Chilla-Grilla Restaurant Grade Charcoal 12KG HARDY, SLOW GROWING, CLASSIC WINTER VEGETABLE: Slow but relatively easy to grow, Brussels sprouts provide valuable harvests through the winter months. Evesham Special is a slow to mature heritage variey that produces a heavy crop per plant. Many say that sprouts have the sweetest flavour after spending some time in the winter frosts. VERY OLD ELGLISH HERITAGE/HEIRLOOM VARIETY: Grow your own Brussel Sprouts for Christmas. Evesham Special is a medium-tall and sturdy plant and has been bred to suite the UK climate. It produces lots of medium sized, sweet & crunchy sprouts that don't have a bitter taste. Plants can be left in the ground all winter and sprouts harvested as and when needed. HOW TO PLANT: Sow direct into well-prepared soil from February until May. Make shallow drills and sprinkle the seed about 1.5cm deep. Cover with fine soil allowing about 60 cm between rows. Thin the seedlings to about 60cm apart when they are about 10cm tall. Water well until plants are established. Plant firmly and water well. Can also be sown indoors and transplanted outside once approximately 10cm tall. TOP GROWING TIPS: Evesham Special is very winter hardy and well suited to exposed windy sites as it produces a very sturdy plant which can be left in the ground all winter. Pick sprouts from the bottom of the plants and work upwards. Matures from 24 to 36 weeks. The loose 'cabbage' top is also edible and tastes delicious. Freshly picked sprouts are also full of health-boosting nutrients. Enjoy them lightly steamed, sautéed or stir-fried in all kinds of dishes. GO BACK TO YOUR ROOTS: Evesham Special Brussels Sprouts are a great starter vegetable to grow. Planting veg, herbs and flowers is a wonderful way to spend time in your garden, cultivate mindfulness and appreciate the little things just like in years gone by. Working with the earth and growing things is immensely satisfying - teach your children or grandchildren this priceless skill of harvesting food in their own gardens, allotments, greenhouses, inside the home in pots or even in community gardens!
