Cabbage Cabeza Negra 2

A dense, deep red, smooth leafed cabbage that produces a large head.

Red cabbage has always been extremely popular in mainland Europe and in recent years has gathered a huge following in United Kingdom.

The large, smooth leafed heads have a wonderful texture and flavour.

Traditionally used for pickling but is excellent eaten raw in a winter salad or cooked at Christmas.

Many cooks add a little apple cider vinegar when cooking, this helps to retain the colour.

Cabbage Cabeza Negra 2 can be used immediately after harvesting but it also stores extremely well.

Grow it as you would summer cabbage

As with all cabbage Cabeza Negra 2 needs well consolidated soil so leave several months between digging and planting.

Can be grown in a variety of soils an is best suited to cooler climates.

Add farmyard manure to the soil when digging but never apply fresh manure before planting.

Birds can be a problem and the young seedlings will need protection from birds, especially sparrows.

Mature cabbage may also need some protection from pigeons.
