Celery Pascal

Also known as Giant Pascal or Pascal Giant.

A French heirloom variety that grows about 2ft. tall and produces pale green, tasty stems.

Celery Pascal features broad, upright, well-rounded, thick, stringless green stalks often measuring two inches in diameter.

Richly flavoured but with a mild, sweet (some say sightly nutty) taste and a wonderful crunchy texture.

Widely known as a salad vegetable but celery has many other uses, it can be cooked or braised, added to casseroles or chopped and used as a snack.

It can also be frozen and added to soups and casseroles in winter.

Celery Pascal is unfussy about soil type but it must be fertile with a consistent moisture level, it is always advisable to add plenty of compost or other humus-rich material to the site before planting.

During the growing season fertilise regularly, water as necessary especially in dry weather.

To help give the stems a paler or light-coloured appearance, mulch with loose soil.
