When it's time to replace your old meter cover, look no further than this Gas & Electric Meter Box Cover. If your old gas meter overbox is cracked, weathered or damaged, it is time to replace it. Unfortunately it can be difficult to replace the inset meter boxes which are standard in most UK homes as they are built directly into the wall, however to ensure it stays weatherproof and watertight, it's a great idea to cover it up with one of these sturdy plastic covers. 

Made from durable ASA plastic, this meter box cover is lightweight but fits sturdily over your existing meter box and can be widely recycled when it no longer serves its purpose. The door hinge mechanism is designed so that it can be set to swing open on either the left or right-hand side depending on the layout of the area you need it and is easy to install and is lockable with a regular meter box key so you won't need to purchase any special tools to install or use this electric meter box cover. 

To install, simply measure the size of your existing meter box to ensure this one will fit over it. Your new box will fit any box no larger than 618mm height x 440mm width x 66mm depth. Mark where you intend for it to sit and where the screw holes on the new box are. Drill these markings and fit the holes with fastening plugs before replacing the overbox back and securing into place with the screws. When you're done, your new meter box will be secure, water resistant, and looking much better than the cracked, grubby, old one!

The Overbox dimensions are as follows:-

634mm height x 494mm width x 100mm depth. 


Internal dimensions are 614mm height x 440mm width x 66mm depth. 


The Overbox can fit over existing inset meter boxes with overall sizes no bigger than 618mm height x 440mm width x66mm depth.

Made from High Impact Engineering Grade, UV weather resistant Thermoplastic polymer material.

Why this Overbox Versus others

When a smart meter replaces the old meter it can't be placed in a broken meter
box. 5% of all boxes are broken at any one time. That's over 2.5 million. Meter boxes have not changed in design, material and manufacturing methods for decades. Current boxes are made from Glass Reinforced Plastic, GRP. 
This material becomes brittle with age causing boxes to crack and break. These are unsuitable for smart meter upgrades and service upgrades.

o  ASA Material is 26% lighter than GRP.

o  ASA Material has 33% more impact strength than GRP.

o  ASA moulded products are friendly to handle rather than GRP products containing short chopped strands of glass.

o  Does not dent compared to aluminum

o  Does not chip or scratch like powder coated aluminum boxes

o  Does not corrode in coastal areas like aluminum.

o  Much more cost effective than aluminum boxes

o  Robust assembly and door construction. Door hinge mechanism allows door to be mounted for left hand or right hand opening and is easily replaced in the event of failure. Badge moulding with ‘E' & ‘G' used to identify utility covered for Electric or Gas meter box.

o  The Overbox is designed to fit over damaged inset meter boxes within the sizes above which are designed in accordance with BS8499: 2009. British Standard for Domestic Gas Meter Boxes.

o  The Overbox has a clean modern appearance to blend with all architectural styles. 

Fitting:-

The overall box will fit over an inset meter box who's dimensions are not bigger that 618mm height x 440mm width x 66mm depth

Place the Overbox over the inset meter box & position.

With a pencil mark positions where you are going to fix the Overbox to the wall.

Remove Overbox & drill holes into the wall, use a fastening/raw plug suitable for your type of wall construction 

Place the Overbox and fasten screws. 


Tighten screws once Overbox is aligned.
