LETTUCE Paris White.

A multi-purpose Cos or Romaine type lettuce Paris White is commonly used for baby leaf production because of its quick growth rate but this variety can also make an excellent head or heart.

An upright grower Lettuce Paris White will reach approx. 9-12 inches and the large thick medium green slightly crumpled leaves have creamy white centres.

Tender, crisp and sweet flavoured, the leaves have a crunchy texture.

Slow to bold lettuce Paris White is resistant to many lettuce diseases and also shows high resistance to tip burn.

This is one of the oldest and most popular lettuce varieties available, it has been grown for almost 5,000 years and is believed by many to be the oldest form of cultivated lettuce.

Egyptian tombs reveal paintings of plants with long, pointed leaves, resembling cos or romaine lettuce and the emperor Augustus Caesar is said to have erected a statue to honour its medicinal properties.

It has been grown in Britain since the sixteen-hundreds.

Cos lettuce has many uses, Caesar Salad is of course the ultimate use but it can also be used in sandwiches, wraps or as a garnish.

Lettuce Paris White matures approx. 65-70 days after sowing.
